Southern Avali

In the sunnier southern reaches of Avalon, the Southern Avali thrive in a drier climate where the snow may fall, but the warmth of the world never truly disappears. These Avali, adapted to the warmer region, have evolved distinct physical and cultural traits that set them apart from the other regional types of Avali.

Physical Adaptations

Southern Avali are built to endure both extreme heat and frigid winds. Their feathers are thinner and more open than common Avali, allowing them to regulate their body temperature more efficiently. The soft underlayer of down-like feathers insulates them when needed, while their wing feathers act as solar panels, absorbing heat and distributing it evenly across their bodies. In times of intense heat, they can spread their wings outward to increase surface area and cool down.

Their sweat glands secrete a cooling fluid that evaporates quickly, helping them maintain comfort even in the hottest conditions. Their light and streamlined feathers are often colored in muted shades of tans, greys, and browns, blending seamlessly with the arid landscape around them. Their wings, though elegant, also serve as a shield against dust storms that frequently sweep through the region.

Cultural Traits & Social Structure

In the pursuit of energy, the Southern Avali tap into mostly solar power and generators, utilizing heat to fuel their homes, greenhouses, and even portable energy storage devices. Their resource management is impressive—rare minerals are refined and liquid is purified using advanced filtration techniques. (Most commonly, you can see filters using sand.) Fashion & Adornments In a society where function outweighs fashion, the Southern Avali wear practical, durable clothing that is suited for their demanding environment. Their garments are made from leather, straps, and lightweight moisture-wicking synthetics like nylon and polyester, which they often wear in neutral tones under their clothing to stay cool. Their ability to adapt to their environment and thrive in harsh conditions makes them invaluable to the rest of Avalon. Whether it’s providing energy-efficient solar tech or rare minerals for crafting and construction, the Southern Avali are essential players in Avalon’s larger economic landscape.
